Game Summary: The Beavers season came to an end in heart-breaking fashion as Amery's Kurt Gehrman beat them with his pitching and his bat. Here are the details.

Amery drew first blood on the only error of the game. With one out, Joe Rubenzer reached on a hard single to LF. C Steven Bielmeier popped behind 3B on a ball that could have been caught by 3B Tim Carlson or SS Adam Bielmeier. An error was given to Carlson on the miscommunication, putting runners on 1st and 2nd. After a wild pitch by Beaver starter Graham Miller, moving both runners up, Amery P Kurt Gehrman grounded out to Bielmeier at short. Rubenzer scored. LF Brandon Anderson popped out to Bielmeier to leave a runner stranded on 3B.

Bielmeier drew a one out walk in the first and advanced to 2B on a 2B Nolan Scheps ground out to second. Miller lined to RF for a hit, but RF Jared Nelson threw a strike to Bielmeier's cousin Steven Bielmeier, the Amery catcher, to cut his cuz down at the plate for the third out.

The Beavers tied the game in the 3rd. C Beau Bergstrom drew a lead off walk, as did DH Sawyer FollansbeeDelong. CF Tommy Zappa laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Adam Bielmeier drew a walk to load the bases. Bergstrom scored on a passed ball by Steven Bielmeier. 2B Nolan Scheps grounded hard to SS Joe Rubenzer, who turned the double play, to keep the score tied.

The Beavers had a chance to score in the fourth when Carlson hit a one-out double. 1B Mitch Blaser lined hard to 2B Jake Mullendore that could have led to a big inning.... but in baseball, you put the defense in a position to make a play, and unfortunately for Beaver Nation, the ball found the glove. Carlson narrowly missed getting doubled-off. RF Brady Rose grounded weakly to 2B to end the inning.

The Beavers took a 2-1 lead in the fifth. Bergstrom again drew a lead off walk. FollansbeeDelong sacrifice bunted him to 2B, and Bergstrom took third on a wild pitch. After Zappa walked, Gerhman threw a curve in the dirt that couldn't be dug out by Steven Bielmeier, and Bergstrom scampered home. Adam Bielmeier struck out looking to end the inning.

Miller had pitched masterfully all night long. He had scattered Warrior hits and got out of jams, but the 7th would leave him and the Beavers one pitch short of a victory. Mullendore singled hard to CF with one out. Rubenzer flew out to deep CF to make it two outs. Mullendore advanced to second on a wild pitch. Steven Bielmeier lined a base hit hard to RF, just in front of RF Brady Rose, scoring Mulledore and tying the game.

Gehrman made sure it would go to extra innings by striking out Bergstrom, FollansbeeDelong, and Zappa in order, in the 7th.

Amery went 1-2-3 in the 8th, but the Beavers did too. Gehrman struck out Adam Bielmeier, Scheps, and got Miller to ground out weakly to 2B to send it to the ninth.

The Warriors went 1-2-3 in the ninth off Beaver junior lefty Tommy Zappa, who came in relief of Miller. Gehrman got stronger as he went along, and seemingly aided by an expanded and inconsistent strike zone, got the Beavers to go quietly in the ninth with three up and three down.

The Warriors got two in the 10th for the win. Zappa struck out Rubenzer for the first out. Steven Bielmeier reached 1st on an infield single that Adam Bielmeier double-pumped to 1B, that he beat out. Gehrman then hit a towering fly ball that fell just a few feet behind the fence for a two-run homer, just on the wrong side of the fence for LF Ryan Behling. Zappa got Anderson and Lee out, but the damage was done.

Zappa laid down a bunt that he apparently beat out, but was called out anyway. Bielmeier grounded out to short and Scheps struck out to end the game, and the Beavers season.

It was a heart-breaking loss for a great group of kids that worked hard all season long. The Beaver coaching staff would like to thank the kids for their efforts, and those that supported the team with their hard work for the Baseball Association and the good of the entire program.
